Juniper
In the last two days of 2024, the Solstice Sanctuary team came across a video posting of a rodeo longhorn steer. After watching the video, the team immediately knew the steer needed a safe place to land, and we would rescue him.
Although we don't know much about his past, we've been told that he was used in rodeos but was no longer needed because he was too gentle and didn't want to buck. While his rodeo days are behind him, Oakley still has a lot of life ahead as he is about 1-2 years old!
We are fundraising to support Oakley and need your help to give him the care he deserves. Your donations will help cover his rescue fee, transportation, and immediate veterinary and hoove care.
Juniper, a mini Hereford cow, arrived at the Sanctuary extremely underweight with troubling blood results. She was rescued from a situation in Texas where she lived her life tied to a tree with minimal hay. We were concerned she would have difficulty making it through her first winter. She was immediately started on a feedback program and given immune-supporting herbs and essential oils. Two months later, her blood results showed improvement. We continued her on that program, and the following year, her bloodwork showed she was a “normal” cow.
Juniper lived the next year of her life on a lush pasture. She gained trust with people and enjoyed being scratched; her favorite spot was under her neck. Sadly, in December of 2023, Juniper’s chronic underlying health conditions took a turn for the worse. Despite our best efforts and numerous trips to the hospital, it was determined that the humane decision was to let Juniper rest in peace. She will forever remain a symbol of the Sanctuary.
