Cassia
Sweet Cassia is a middle-aged Quarter Horse mare who spent her earlier years as an Amish cart horse and a broodmare. Due to her extensive work on the roads, she has arthritis and old injuries, which require her to wear shoes and receive equioxx. She is extremely kind and has thrived in our human healing programs.
Cassia is the lead mare in a group setting and enjoys having a stall at night where she can find warmth and a comfortable place to lie down. Although she is rideable, we do not recommend riding her at this time due to her past injuries. Cassia would excel as a pasture buddy, a companion to a human, or as part of a healing program.
OPAL
Opal is a mid to late teens pony. Opal came from Texas with the “Texas 5”, which included her 5-month-old weanling, Catwoman. Opal has slowly been coming out of her shell over the last 2 years of her being with the sanctuary. Opal was fostered for about 9 months by a wonderful family where she was exposed to an entirely new environment of little children, a new horse, and new routines. Opal thrived in her foster and was returned due to no fault of her own.
Opal would be best suited as a “pasture pet” or companion pony for a family with lower energy children. Opal is slow to trust but once she knows her people she is very sweet and loves walks, scratches, and is slowly learning to enjoy baths. Opal is low in the pecking order so she gets along with pretty much anyone that she goes with! Opal leads, stands tied for the farrier and grooming, loads in the trailer, and lunges. Opal has also been used for Equus coaching where she was free lunged by strangers and thrived in her sessions.
